getting things done
- pain is not the unit of effort. Don’t choose work you don’t enjoy. If you can’t choose, make it fun or pay someone else to do it. There’s always a way.
- create a schedule for what the ideal day/week looks like:
- create routines for non-negotiables
- the rest are flexible - always be working on the most important thing. If the meta-work of prioritization and allocation is costly b/c there are seemingly equally important things, work dumber. Just pick any project at random and start.
- work expands, so have a deadline for every project and a stopping point for every task. Do not work continuously for more than 90 minutes.
- organization is not about moving things around. it’s about making it easy to focus on what’s most important, i.e. organization = prioritization = elimination.
- keep your head empty. Create a note for every project you’re working on. Dump everything in there. Simple is best.
- create action items and make them as granular as possible (possible to finish in half an hour max)
- reorder them. Put easier ones first to build momentum.
- keep your head empty. Create a note for every project you’re working on. Dump everything in there. Simple is best.
- to stay focused, go as fast as you can. When estimating the time something would take, err on the shorter side so there’s less activation energy required, but give yourself contingency. If sharing these estimates with others, underpromise and overdeliver.
- keep a to-do list, a to-avoid list, and a later list.
- to-do list: 5/day max. 1-3-5. 1 critical, 2 more important ones, 2 more no-pressure tasks.
- these tiers allow you to procrastinate effectively.
- to-avoid list: other things you find important but aren’t essential.
- assume zero willpower and prevent distractions accordingly.
- later list: for when you remember something or come across something you want to check out later as you’re working.
- to-do list: 5/day max. 1-3-5. 1 critical, 2 more important ones, 2 more no-pressure tasks.
relationships
- build serendipity vehicles, think and build in public
- reach out to cool people
- grow family (friends = chosen family)
learning
- input: interests -> what to learn
- processing: linked notes + spaced repetition
- output: projects
